Sashiko in Shoreditch — Our First London Workshop at AIDA

Sashiko in Shoreditch — Our First London Workshop at AIDA

On June 7th, we’re taking Fereday on the road. We’ll be setting up in East London at the beautiful AIDA Shoreditch to host our very first Sashiko workshop in the city.

This isn’t just a mending class. It’s a slow, meditative making session that leans into everything we love: meaningful repair, thoughtful design, and building lasting connections with the things we wear and use.

What is Sashiko?

Sashiko (刺し子) means “little stabs” in Japanese — a traditional hand-stitching method used to repair and reinforce worn garments. Over time, it’s become a powerful visual language of slow fashion. Stitch by stitch, you’re not just fixing — you’re celebrating imperfection, age, and individuality.

When layered and built over time, sashiko becomes boro — a patchworked record of wear, history and care.

What We’ll Be Doing

We’ll begin by practicing sashiko techniques on scrap fabric, experimenting with stencils, thread, and layout. Then, each participant will receive an indigo organic cotton tote bag as their final piece to work on.

You’ll choose between:

  • Stitching sashiko patterns directly onto your tote, or

  • Creating a boro-style look using a mix of hand-cut patches and freestyle repairs

The idea is this: your tote begins its life at the workshop, and it continues to evolve over time — a practical object that slowly becomes a one-of-one piece of functional art.

What’s Included

Every ticket includes:

  • A high-quality indigo organic cotton tote

  • A sashiko needle

  • A skein of thread

  • All fabric scraps and tools to use during the session

You’ll also have the chance to shop extra kits, tools, patches, and Fereday gear — we’ll be setting up a small table and rail at AIDA during the event.

Why We’re Doing This

Workshops are a huge part of what we believe in — passing on skills, creating space to slow down, and helping people feel more connected to their clothes. Hosting this at AIDA feels like a dream. It’s a place that values good design and slow fashion, and we’re excited to bring something intimate and hands-on into their space.

We only have 16 spots available, and they’ll be sold directly through AIDA’s website.

See you in Shoreditch.
